Lands and Peoples: The World in Color, lot of 6 volumes (Grolier Society, c. 1930s) Six illustrated volumes from the Grolier Society's classic geography series Lands and Peoples: The World in Color, edited by Holland Thompson of the College of the City of New York. Each volume takes the reader through a region's land, people, customs and daily life, with period photographs and maps. Volumes included: U.S.S.R. North Africa Greece – Albania – Balkans Italy Syria – Palestine – Arabia Madagascar – Dutch East Indies – Borneo The set is a snapshot of pre-war geography and travel writing, and the Russia, Balkans and Dutch East Indies volumes show borders and names that no longer exist. It would suit collectors of vintage geography books, and anyone decorating a shelf or a study. Condition: Red cloth hardcovers with black lettering and the ship emblem, in very good condition for their age. Bindings are tight and pages are clean. Library stamp on the title page (ex-school library).
